The Winery

Try the fantastic Tamianka & others!

BRATANOV Family Winery & Vineyards is a dream come true due to the hard work and devotion of a father and his sons. Their honorable mission is to restore the ancestral tradition after an interruption of more than 50 years. During the period 2005 – 2008 on the sunny hills of South Sakar Mountain nearby the village of Shishmanovo the family planted 24 ha of Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Rubin, Chardonnay and Tamianka. The varieties were selected after a careful analysis of the local soils and climate conditions. The analysis proved what the elderly people in the region already knew: the southern hills of the Sakar Mountain are one of the best areas in Europe for viticulture. The place is pollution-free as it is situated far enough from any heavy industrial production. Moreover, large parts of the land have not been cultivated for decades and the soil was clean of any chemicals. In the autumn of 2010 Bratanovi opened a small winery for production of quality wines. Thus the control over the whole process of wine production was ensured – from the grapes to the bottle. The natural symbiotic connection between the land and the vines, between the different grape varieties and between a father and his sons inspired the name of the first winery’s brand name – SYMBIOSE. Besides the white blend of Chardonnay & Tamianka the line includes also the red blends Syrah & Cabernet Franc, Merlot & Cabernet Franc, Merlot & Syrah and the elegant ROS?
of Merlot & Syrah. And as a token of our belief that the next generation shall continue the wine-making tradition the wines from the series „The Successors“ were born, each of them reflecting the character of our children. The portfolio of the winery is gradually enriched with varietal wines of Merlot (the grape variety with which South Sakar Region is typically recognized for decades), Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Rubin, Mavrud, Chardonnay and Tamianka. All wines are produced in limited lots.

BRATANOV Winery is among the founding members of the Bulgarian Association of Independent Winegrowers (BAIW) – the “new wave” Bulgarian wine producers who put more emphasis on the expression of the terroir in their wines rather than on the technology.
